Big Idea Talks "The Secret Life of Books"

Written by Published in Library News

Brad LaFran will present a program on February 19 at 7:00 p.m. on the book "The Assistant" by Bernard Malamud.  Multiple copies of the book are available to check-out.  This program is free and open to the public.  Come hear the talk and enjoy the discussion.

Brad LaFran grew up in eastern Oregon.  After serving in the U.S. Navy as a Hospital Corpsman he got his B.A. in English from Eastern Oregon University and became a Teaching Fellow at Eastern Washington University the same year.  He earned a M.F.A. in Creative Writing there and eventually accepted a full-time tenure-track position in English at WWCC, where he has taught for 20 years.

He has published poetry and short fiction and "believes in the power of books to change our lives for the better.  They can free us from the deadly influence of ignorance, and they can feed and nourish our highest ideals and deepest values."

This program is the second in a series of three programs on The Secret Life of Books.  The third and final program in the series will be held on March 19 at 7:00 p.m., and be presented by Jan Kruper on the book "Reading in the Dark" by Seamus Deane.
