Big Idea Talks: Blacknificent

The Walla Walla Public Library is thrilled to present Big Idea Talks: Blacknificent in partnership with The Listeners Project: Queremos Escucharte.

This Big Idea Talk features local guest author Anyla Dior McDonald as she speaks about her experiences growing up in Walla Walla as a black youth and her motivations for writing her most recent work, "Black Joy & Black Tribulations: Poems, Short Stories and Essays."

Anyla describes her work as "...centered around Black Joy, Black Trauma, and Black Excellence. The intention of my book is to empower and encourage others to love and celebrate their Blackness."  

She has published creative fiction, nonfiction, essays and more in publications such as Tumbleweird and lead discussions with The Listeners Project: Queremos Escucharte in advocation of black youth and restorative justice.

Big Idea Talks: Blacknificent will hold a reception with refreshments at 6:30pm followed by the talk at 6:45pm. Copies of her book "Black Joy & Black Tribulations: Poems, Short Stories, and Essays" will be available for purchase at the event.

La Biblioteca Pública de Walla Walla se complace en presentar Platica de Grandes Ideas: Blacknificent en asociación con The Listeners Project: Queremos Escucharte.  

En esta Platica de Grandes Ideas, la autora local invitada Anyla Dior McDonald habla sobre sus experiencias como joven negra en Walla Walla y sus motivaciones para escribir su último trabajo, "Black Joy & Black Tribulations: Poems, Short Stories, and Essays”.  

Anyla describe su obra como "... centrada en la alegría negra, el trauma negro y la excelencia negra. La intención de mi libro es animar y empoderar a otros para que amen y celebren su negritud".   

Ha publicado ficción creativa, no ficción, ensayos y más en publicaciones como Tumbleweird, tambien a dirigido discusiones con The Listeners Project: Queremos Escucharte en defensa de la juventud negra y la justicia reparadora.
