The Friends of the Library of Walla Walla meets monthly. Friends are dedicated to strengthening and promoting the Public Library, building community and financial support, and encouraging volunteer involvement. Everyone is welcome to join.
Library patrons may access HeritageQuest online with their library card. The Library has a Pacific Northwest Collection, featuring books about early Walla Walla County and Washington State for in-library use.
You are encouraged to bring your Library card each time you visit. If you have photo ID we can look up your card but prefer that you bring your card.
The Library's ability to accept donated books varies throughout the year. Please call 509-527-4550 to inquire. We do not accept donations of magazines, DVDs, or CDs. We suggest contacting AAUW Walla Walla to donate to their annual Book Sale in support of local scholarships.
Most Library cards expire after two years to give the staff the opportunity to verify that we have the correct and current address, phone number and email information for you.
If the book is not owned by the Walla Walla Public Library we will be glad to consider it for purchase first. If we choose not to purchase it for the collection, we can try to borrow it from another library through interlibrary loan. There is a $3 fee to cover mailing costs. Please call 509-527-4550 or ask in person at the front desk to make a request.
If you checked out material which was already damaged, please bring it to our attention when you return it. If you are returning it in the bookdrop, please put a rubber band around it to alert us to damage.
If Library material, checked out to you, has been torn or exposed to weather, or has been damaged in any other manner including missing covers or barcodes, please speak with us before returning your materials so that the damage can be assessed and fees or replacement costs explained. Visit us at the front desk, call us at (509) 527-4550, or email us at wwpl@wallawallawa.gov.
The library does not currently offer computer classes. You may contact Lorraine Consoliver, Goodwill Employment Connection Center Instructor, to learn about free classes open to anyone at Goodwill and WorkSource. Her number is 509-525-5999.
For program information, please see our Calendar, Family Events & Storytimes, or Facebook page; or call us at (509) 527-4550 and we'll be glad to answer any questions.
Anyone who has a Walla Walla Public Library card is welcome to join the Library's book club. The Book Club meets the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 12 pm. In addition, the library's Romance Book Club meets the last Wednesday of the month at 5:30 pm. To join, attend the next meeting or email the Walla Walla Public Library at wwpl@wallawallawa.gov. Check the calendar to see which book will be discussed next.
The Library also offers Book Club in a Bag, with seven copies of the same title, for private book clubs to borrow.
Please read our Internet Policy.
The Library has computers with Microsoft Office Suite and access to the Internet. Use is limited to 90 minutes per day and requires a Library card. You must have a valid Walla Walla Public Library card to use the computers in the Library. The Library also provides the opportunity for those visiting from out of town (50 miles or more) to use a guest pass with the same time limit.
We also have MacBook laptops available for check-out; you can ask for a laptop at the front desk, reserve a laptop online via the library catalog, or call 509-527-4550 for assistance.
Printing is 10 cents per page on all computers.
Wireless access is available throughout the Library. You must provide your own computer with a wireless network card.
- As of May 26, 2021, Walla Walla Public Library no longer assesses nor collects fines for any overdue materials. All past overdue fines are also forgiven.
- Library patrons with overdue fines still on their account can call the library at 509-527-4550, email us at wwpl@wallawallawa.gov, or speak with library staff in person to have the charges removed. Please be patient as the computer system is updated and we work to remove charges across several thousand accounts.
- Damaged items are reviewed and assessed charges according to the amount of damage and ability to mend the item.
- Library users with material overdue 30 days past the due date will be charged to replace the material. If materials are returned in good condition at that time, the replacement charge will be removed from the account.
- The Library can accept payment by cash, check, credit or debit card.
Return books and magazines at any time in either of the two outdoor return bins. One is located in the Poplar parking lot with drive by access, and the other is near the entrance doors on Alder. These items, as well as DVDs, CDs, and audiobooks, may be returned at any time through the wall slots outside the Poplar entrance. Other items should be returned at the front desk during open hours.
Return bins remain open while the library is closed, except for holiday closures, so that they don't get too full. Don't worry if your returns are delayed due to holiday closures - the library does not charge daily overdue fines.

Individuals owning property in or living within the limits of the City of Walla Walla are eligible for a free library card.
Individuals living outside the limits of the City of Walla Walla need to purchase a library card to use the Walla Walla Public Library. It is a household cost of $68 for one year or $34 for six months. Those who live within Walla Walla County, but not in the cities of Walla Walla or Waitsburg, are members of the Walla Walla Rural Library District (WWRLD), which will reimburse the full cost up to their budgeted amount if the individual also has a current WWRLD card. This includes residents of College Place.
Those who reside outside Walla Walla County or within the city limits of Waitsburg are not part of the WWRLD and are not eligible for reimbursement.
Walla Walla Public Library no longer collects overdue fines. However, items that were due more than 30 days ago are considered lost and the borrower's account is charged the replacement cost.
