Fall Cemetery Tour

The community is invited to take a step back in time and attend a free tour of Mountain View Cemetery, led by a staff member. Attendees will learn about interesting and colorful citizens of Walla Walla who helped shape our fair city.

Mountain View is composed of four distinct cemeteries, each formerly independently operated. The stately, nearly 80-acre cemetery, now one of the oldest municipally operated in the state, is the final resting place for over 40,000 people, with many headstones dating back to the 1800s.

Under the mature tree canopy, deer, squirrels, and birds frolic among ornate monuments and markers that attest to the artistic abilities of the expert stonecutters who crafted many of the oldest stones of marble and granite.

For more information, contact the Cemetery office at 509-527-4485, or Cemetery Caretaker Joanna Lanning at 509-200-6646 or jlanning@wallawallawa.gov.
