Local Etsy artist Akiko Gilmore will facilitate a drop-in origami workshop for ages 10 and up on Saturday, March 12th, 11:00AM-1:00 PM at the Walla Walla Public Library.
Origami is the art of paper folding, which is often associated with Japanese culture. In modern usage, the word "origami" is used as an inclusive term for all folding practices, regardless of their culture of origin. Origami is an easily accessible art form that encourages focus, creativity, and spatial perception. About the artist: Akiko Gilmore upcycles and remakes bags, baskets, cards, and accessories from pre-owned materials from kimonos to milk cartons. Originally from Japan, she was “taught by my grandparents and parents who have suffered during and after WWII; I naturally use things respectfully, mend them, remake them, and use them again.” Many of her pieces are featured on her Etsy site SekiWorks, including origami cards.
This workshop is free to the public, and all materials will be provided.
Space is limited for this drop-in event. If patrons are unable to attend the workshop, grab bags with origami instructions and paper will be available to pick up all day, Saturday, March 12th, from 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
