Historic Preservation Commission meeting

The City received a Certified Local Government (CLG) grant from the Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation to prepare a historic preservation plan that will guide preservation efforts in Walla Walla for the next 10 years. In December 2021, we hired consultants, Northwest Vernacular, to prepare this plan.

In January 2022, we asked area residents to provide their thoughts on what places are important to the community, preservation of these places, ownership of historic properties, and more. The survey responses — 494 in all — helped Northwest Vernacular gather data about Walla Walla's history and places that matter to residents, which they used in creating the historic preservation plan.

A draft of the plan is now complete and available for public review on this page.

During this meeting, Northwest Vernacular staff will provide an overview of the plan and a summary of each chapter. There will be a particular emphasis on the action plan, which lays out recommended actions for the City to implement to strengthen its historic preservation program. Residents will have the opportunity to provide comments, ask questions, and learn about the next steps for the project.

Members of the public are invited to attend the meeting in person; online at https://bit.ly/3BNoENY; or listen to the meeting by calling 253-215-8782 and entering meeting ID 870 0929 1541.
